Case study
PlantNet
You might say PlantNet are growth specialists. As passionate gardeners with a particular focus on dwarf and ornamental fruit tree varieties, there’s nothing they love more than helping home gardeners plant, harvest, and enjoy flourishing fruit trees in their own backyard. With a range of resources to help customers keep their fruit bowls well-stocked, PlantNet is the place for both fresh-faced and veteran gardening enthusiasts to find everything they need.
But in early 2022, they decided that in order to reach more home gardeners around Australia, especially over the usually quiet Christmas period, they needed a different type of growth specialist. And that’s where we came in.
What we did
On the recommendation of one of our past clients (thank you!), PlantNet engaged us to conduct an SEO audit and implement our findings.
During our audit, we recognised that PlantNet’s website prevented them from reaching their full flowering potential.
First, we undertook in-depth keyword research and keyword mapping, which would form the basis of PlantNet’s SEO strategy.
The next step was optimising and rewriting missing title tags and meta descriptions and adding search engine-optimised copy to the website’s category pages, both of which would significantly improve PlantNet’s discoverability online.
We also fixed a few technical issues on PlantNet’s website, such as broken links and redirect chains and loops, and disavowed several toxic backlinks. That’s a fancy way of saying we requested that Google ignore certain links to PlantNet’s website, meaning that its ranking wouldn’t be negatively impacted by being associated with lower-quality or less-trusted sites.
Finally, we optimised existing blog content to ensure that it was current, engaging, and relevant to PlantNet’s ideal customers.
Businesses often overlook title tags and meta descriptions in the website creation process. They’re incredibly important, though – they provide summaries that help search engines understand a page’s content, and also encourage readers to visit those pages.
Top tip
Within 2 weeks of implementing our SEO strategy, PlantNet’s average keyword rankings for target keywords rose from 16.75 to 6.25 – and now sit at a very healthy average position of 2.95 (9 months later).
They also saw an increase of 68% in total keywords and an increase of 135% in page one keywords!
While we increased PlantNet’s overall traffic by 40%, the real test was the typically quiet Christmas period. Their organic traffic increased by 177% and revenue from organic traffic by over 300%!
The results
Emma Swan, PlantNet’s Marketing Coordinator, had this to say about working with Sunday Best.
“We were blown away by Remi and her team’s incredible results, comprehensive reporting style, and above-and-beyond effort. Her work improved the SEO scoring on all of our web pages, and she also helped to identify areas for improvement.
Remi went out of her way to help us fix the finer details on our website and clearly communicated with us so that we would be able to run our website better than ever.
The way Remi works is refreshingly friendly, personal, and effective. She has an honest and relatable approach to her communication – which makes it feel like we’re in the same room (rather than on Zoom)!
Remi is a testament to her industry!”
Thanks a bunch, Emma! We can’t wait to see PlantNet – and its website – continue to thrive!
